Despite the hush hush nature of the wedding details, the press sniffed the location and time of Song Il-gook’s (37) wedding. Befitting the image of a Korean prince, the Jumong actor wed Jung Seung-yeon (32) in a gorgeous traditional ceremony at the Vista Hall in Sheraton Walker Hill on March 16th, 2008.

There are very few pictures released to the public of the new bride. To avoid the glare of the cameras, the low-key bride remained in her room until the start of the ceremony. (Generally, brides are displayed in ‘bridal waiting rooms” )
The event was closed to the public, although more than a thousand well-wishers were present at the ceremony, so the only pictures available are the ones released officially to the public.

Song�s bride, a Ms. Jung, studied civil law at Seoul National University Law School and is a newly appointed judge. Impressive.

The couple met through mutual friends and are married after two years of dating. The actor�s reps expressed a desire to keep the bride�s name undisclosed, inasmuch as she�s a private citizen (with close to 1,500 attendees, good luck with that!)







Sure the guest list was packed with the A-listers, but unfortunately, there were very few celebrities of interest.

The wedding ceremony was held in the evening with approximately 1600 persons in attendance. Evening weddings are usually formal affairs so let’s see how the celebrities stack up.

In the KBS 2TV upcoming drama Crime Squad/Homicide, Song Il Kook will play Detective Park Se-hyuk who, although gentle at heart, will tend to act rather recklessly when trying to solve cases.

Mr. Song has been spending a lot of time studying the character after he auditioned and successfully got the part. In order to get into the mindset of Park Se-hyuk, Mr. Song has frequent discussions with the director and the writer, and he requested a lot of relevant materials from several real-life crime fighters for further exploration. Mr. Song doubt is totally committed to becoming Detective Park.

Mr. Song said, “In order to get into the character, I am learning to carry Park Se-hyuk’s tone of speech and pattern of behavior in my everyday life, outside of filming! I have been reading a lot of crime fictions and received a great deal of input from some truly experienced detectives. Reading all kinds of crime solving stories really helped me move towards becoming Detective Park Se-hyuk. If you, the audience, can see Park Se-hyuk as a real person - so real that he is just like someone you may have run into in your life, then I think I did my job and I won’t be worried even if the drama turns to be a flop.”

"Table setting. All the SIK goodies are donations by club members. It took a member a long time to find candy bars with the word "Make 5". The center piece was made by a member and all the toppings have some special meanings. All I remember is there were 5 paper cranes and a picture of SIK's wedding (for anniversary)."

When the artist met SIK last February during AMCG filming, she asked what would SIK want next, without thinking, he said a White Tiger. A promise kept. In the spring of 2006, a group of Hawaii fans traveled to Korea to meet their favorite "Hallyu" super star, Song Il Kook at a meeting hosted by the Korean fan club. They found him to be gracious, charming, and personable, a true reflection of his character.
The Hawaii group led by club founder, Joanne Tachibanam extended an invitation to him to visit Hawaii. Three years later on March 21, 2009 the dream has come true for members of the Gentle Song Il Kook Hawaii-USA fan club. For his very first fan meeting outside Korea, Song Il Kook chose to come to Hawaii.
At a press conference he provided candid responses to our questions:
Q: Before arriving, what were your impressions of Hawaii? What is your view of Hawaii now?
SIK: Before I came, people told me how hot it was here and of course I've seen videos and pictures of the Hawaiian Islands. But, now I am impressed by the clean air, clear skies, and how warm everyone is. I was especially surprised by the number of fans waiting to greet me at the airport, shouting "Aloha" and giving me so many beautiful leis. It was a wonderful welcome.

Q: What would be the first thing that you would do if you went to a country that you were'nt so easily recognized in?
SIK: i would like to walk around just to see the sights and the people. You gain a better awareness and understanding of the culture when you go to interact with the people and places up close.
Q: What are your future plans after leaving Hawaii? Will you be doing another historical drama?
SIK: I will be going to Japan to promote my latest drama "Kingdom of the Winds." I curretly do not have any plans yet on my next project; however, it will not be another historical drama. ( sad.gif )

Q: We heard that you fell from your horse during the shooting of the drama "Kingdom of the Winds." How did that happen and have you recovered from the fall?
SIK: We were shooting the scene in the winter on an icy plain. My horse slipped and I went down with the horse. I was knocked unconscious and to this day i can't remember details of the accident. I also hurt my shoulder and continue to have trouble raising my arm. I noticed the problem while training to participate in a triathlon and had difficulty swimming where i could not take a full stroke on that injured side.

Q: On a separate note, last year you had an opportunity to participate in carrying the Olympic torch through Korea. How was the experience?
It was a great honor to carry the Olympic torch for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and run through the streets of Seoul as part of the torch relay. It is especially meaningful for me and my family since we have close historical ties to China.

Q: Lastly do you have any words for your fans and for the people who enjoy watching your dramas?
SIK: Thank you for your many words of encouragement and support. i will continue to do my best in all my dramas and hope to meet with you someday and thank you in person. May you always be happy and be in the best of health.

Regarding "Saturday night countdown," the variety show on March 21 with Song Il Kook, Yeo Ho Min, Park Sun-joo, Ko Hyun-Wook and Hyun Jung Ho. Diane Murakami wrote:
To the surprise of everyone, Song Il Kook joined hosts David Lim and Se-Kyong Johnson on stage to co-emcee the show. He introduced guest performers, pulled lucky numbers, and participated in the Question and Answer session......
Everyone I spoke to after the show praised how "giving" Song Il Kook was of himself and his time. It countered any previous perceptions that Song Il Kook was quiet and reserved. He was constantly involved from the beginning until the very end, even joining the rest of the cast in singing one last to everyone. He was without peer. the audience was moved by his sincerity and charisma. (I WAS THERE, I totally agree)

The show exceeded my expectations because the fans and people of Hawaii came all to welcome him. Although it was their first visit, a lot of them didn't want to leave, including Mr. Song. Hawaii is deserving of Song Il Kook because he's more that a star; he's a wonderful person."
